Why have we as children and staff decided,  to join the Fairtrade initiative?

There are more than a billion people all over the world that live in poverty, all because of rules that are unfair and inconsistent with regards to food, clothes and the trading of other materials.

What are we doing to raise awareness of the Fairtrade scheme?

cer yn deg ceredigionThere are many things that we do within the classroom and outside of them. Recently we were challenged to create a logo to represent schools in the North Ceredigion area, that were involved in the Fairtrade scheme. Here is the winning design that represented our school in the competition. What do you think of it?

On the 3rd May, there was a Fairtrade conference in Penglais Secondary School, Aberystwyth. Our Fairtrade council went to the conference and acted out a scenario, where they played the role of people who were part of the Fairtrade scheme and showed how their lives had changed for the better, due to fairer trading rules. Here are some pictures of the day:

One task that was given to us was to create a menu from the ingredients given to us.It was similar to Ready Steady Cook!

Here we are infront of the Fair Trade banner. The girl standing with us is from Kenya, Africa. She talked to us about how her life is at home, and about the good work she does with Fair Trade.

We have decided to buy more Fair Trade products to sell in our fruit shop which is open twice a week.

Here we are on the webcam with school children in Ghana! Their parents are coco farmers for the Kuapa Kokoo union, that supply their products to be sold as Fairtrade chocolate..

Kuapa Kokoo is a co-op union of 937 village societies, representing about 40,000 farmers. They currently sell about 650 tonnes of cocoa to the fair trade market each year.

A lady from Zimbabwe recently visited our school martha_314_02

with a message from Fairtraders. Martha Mazone's message

raised awareness about their struggle in her home town. She

urged us to keep supporting them by buying their products.
